Originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Chris King enjoys a career as a freelance trumpet player, based in Orlando, Florida. He performs a myriad of musical styles, from classical and jazz, to rock, funk, R&B, salsa, and other contemporary genres. At times, he can be found in the pit orchestra for musical theatre productions done by the Wayne Densch performing Arts Center, Wekiva River Players, and Valencia Community College. As an educator, he maintains a studio of trumpet students who often successfully audition into district and state-level honor bands, and serves as a regular clinician to various Central Florida middle and high schools.
Mr. King has been a musician for Walt Disney World since 2005, starting in the Christmas Season Collegiate Band, and currently as a substitute performer for Magic Kingdom's "Main Street Philharmonic". He has been tapped for performances with the Bach Festival Orchestra of Winter Park, and been part of the house bands for several Orlando-area churches, such as Clint Brown's Faith World, Crazy Praze, as well as the short-standing house band for the nationally-syndicated early morning talk/news program, The Daily Buzz. He has, on occasion, performed with Grammy-Winner Sam Rivers' RivBea Orchestra. He has been afforded the opportunities for backing up such artists as Béla Fleck, Kirk Franklin, Tony Vega, Menique, Anthony Cruz, Chamaco Rivera, and Oscar Rizo.
When not performing or teaching, Chris composes and arranges for several bands in Central Florida, most often integrated horn and strings into popular music, and writing "condensed band" versions of big band jazz tunes otherwise scored for large ensembles.
Chris King attended Rollins College for his musical education, and is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, local AFM-389.
